when i lived in new york several years ago i used watch cnn’s newsnight with aaron brown almost every night. his opening commentary and “the whip” were must watch tv for anyone interested in intelligent, thoughtful news coverage. so it is great to see that he is returning to tv - i only wish i could get pbs’ wide angle in australia.

oyster sauce surprise
i was chatting to some vegetarian friends of mine last week (i know, i know … it is hard to believe i associate with vegetarians) and i was surprised to discover they wouldn’t eat oyster sauce because it was made from oysters. that fairly obvious fact had never ever occurred to me. am i alone in overlooking something so blatantly obvious?
